Astrology is the study of human personality and events through the placement of the planets on your star chart, which dates back to ancient Babylon. As said by livescience.com, “Babylonians developed their own form of horoscopes around 2,400 years ago.” You may already know your star sign, which is classified as one of the twelve zodiac signs: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces. All of these zodiac signs correlate with your date of birth. However, it goes deeper than that. 

Alongside the twelve zodiac, signs are further organized by other factors, such as the ascendent/rising sign and the moon sign. The ascendent sign corresponds to your exact birth time. So if one of your astrology-obsessed friends happened to ask for your birth time, now you know why. Your rising sign is known as your social personality, or how you are perceived by others; whereas your sun sign, one of the 12 zodiac signs, depicts your personality. Conversely, your moon sign is how you are emotionally. It is said the moon tells more about you than any other sign. The moon sign also correlates with your birth time. 

There are also other categories that can correlate with your personality, such as the Mars sign. There are nine planets on your chart that correlate with personality. There will be a zodiac sign from one of the twelve written next to planets. For example, your Mars could be in Taurus and your Saturn is in Libra. The Mars sign is how you react to situations and how you express your anger. Alongside that are the 12 houses that show exactly where your planets fit on the chart. Another thing others may not know about is your lilith sign and your north node. Lilith is seen as your weaknesses or what makes you vulnerable, and your north node represents the pattern you are going through in life. 

This may seem confusing, however there are sites that can help decipher your star chart. I personally use astrocafe, but there are others out there. These websites give in depth descriptions of your chart based on the information you input.
