“Taking a leap of faith”: Antonio Conover, Arts & Culture Editor

If you were to tell me I’d be part of a writing based club and hold an editor position, I’d look at you like you’re crazy. Since freshman year I’ve despised writing. I hated sitting behind the keyboard banging my head trying to write my thoughts or ideas of paper. I’m still not sure how I was convinced to join The Holly Spirit, but all I can say is that it has been one of the best experiences I’ve had here at RV. I would have never thought I’d write willingly, pitch new ideas at desk meetings, or even attend the early morning meetings. The Holly Spirit has been one big, at times messy (But who isn’t?), fun and loving family. I went from a timid writer having no experience in journalism, to running desk meetings and pitching new ideas to the rest of the section. To our wonderful Arts and Culture desk, I thank each and every one of you for coming in with eagerness, pride, and passion. You all made this experience truly amazing, and I’m going to miss all of you. 🙁

My time here at RV went quicker than I thought. Even with a wrench thrown in like COVID-19, in the blink of an eye I’m already a soon-to-be graduating senior. My advice to anyone reading this is simply go for it. You always hear this from your teachers and parents, but it holds true. Without taking the step to start something new, you never know what opportunities lie ahead of you. Who knows, you could be our next “Best of SNO” winner.

One of the things I’ve loved about RV is the spirit (no pun intended). I know there’s some preconceived notions about having school spirit, but RV does it different. Everyone here is in it, and you’re the weird one if you’re not part of it. I’ve loved all of the traditions, opportunities and diversity RV has to offer, as it has shaped my experience as not only a student, but a person.

I’m beyond proud of what I’ve accomplished here, from challenging myself academically, musically and socially. RV has everything you need to be successful, and it’s a matter of taking that leap of faith to be involved.
