EThe Philadelphia Eagles concluded their season with a 11-6 record, losing in the first round of the playoffs. The Eagles undeniably need to make changes to the team this off-season, but what exactly should they do?
In the first month of the off-season, the Eagles have already gotten rid of both their offensive coordinator, Brian Johnson, and defensive coordinator, Sean Desai.
Former Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator, Kellen Moore, will take-over the offensive coordinator position. And the defensive coordinator got replaced with Vic Fangio, former Miami Dolphins defensive coordinator. With these new moves, the Eagles coaching staff is taking a step in the right direction.
After rumors of retirement began circulating, Jason Kelce said that he has no intention of leaving the Eagles organization. And honestly, if he left, I don’t know what they would do. You could consider Jalen to be the leader of the offense, but personally I think it’s Jason, and without him, the Eagles offense wouldn’t be as good as it is now.
This past season, Jalen Hurts was nothing other than an average quarterback. Jalen’s performance this season was not comparable to his 2022-2023 season, where he placed second in MVP voting.
I think that the only way Jalen can be elite is if he has both of his weapons, his passing and running. Jalen was great last season because he was mobile and could get himself a first down, this season it seemed as if he wasn’t as aggressive as last season. The only way Jalen can get back to being an MVP caliber quarterback is if he can regain his aggressiveness, as it pertains to running the ball.
This off-season, the coaching staff needs to work on incorporating more rushing plays into their offense. Last season, it seemed that the Eagles barely ran the ball and would always result to passing. Don’t get me wrong, A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith both had amazing seasons and are great wide receivers, but you have a pro bowl running back and don’t use him.
The defense this year has already improved with the hiring of a new coordinator. Some other things they should improve is the secondary and the linebackers. Maybe Howie Roseman could work his magic and acquire the players they need.
Overall, the Eagles need to use free agency to their advantage and get some better defensive backs and linebackers. Hopefully next year Jalen can become an MVP caliber quarterback again and we can become serious championship contenders again.
