Whether it’s mobile games on an iPhone or Android, sports on the Wii, PC shooters like Call of Duty or even games going back to Gamecubes and Ataris, everyone has at least heard of or played one video game in their life. Video games are an easy way to pass time where there is nothing else for you to do, and you can invest yourself into the new world of the game you are playing. Gaming is one way for people to release themselves from what is going on around you. Even if you don’t play video games, these top five are some that even the most uneducated game players will know.
#1 — Call of Duty: Modern Warfare
A first-person shooter game released in 2019 where, in singleplayer, you inspect NPC’s and are eventually evaluated and scored by yourself; in multiplayer you and a team of four others fight against an opposing team. The game dives deep into realistic aspects, and it follows a storyline of war between Russia and the Republic of Urzikstan in 2019-2020. The game is as easy as an FPS can get, however some aspects of the game can be difficult to understand as a new player. Overall, the game has a 7/10 review on Steam, and an 89% liking rate. According to CBR (COD MW Mobilized 2), it is “…befitting one of the best and most-groundbreaking FPS games ever made.”
#2 — Rainbow Six Siege
Coming at a 9/10 Steam review rate and a 93% liking rate, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege is a tactical shooter game released in 2015 based on environmental destruction as with the use of bombs, hostages, and serious objectives; while allowing teammates to easily cooperate with one another. The storyline to this game is that you and others are set to train in order to fight off a terrorist group called the ‘White Masks’. Rainbow Six Siege, or known as R6, has won three different gaming awards and has been nominated for over 27 others.
#3 — Minecraft
An internet classic, Minecraft is an open-world sandbox game where you get to build endless structures and explore various lands, or known as biomes, while having to worry about certain monsters that might block your path. Minecraft, formerly known as ‘Cube Game’ was released in 2009, and had owner transfer in 2014. With another 9/10 Steam review rate, Minecraft has been declared the best video game of the century. With many game modes, moderations, versions to play, the ability to play in single and multiplayer, and many cultural impacts in society, Minecraft has been one of the most popular games to make history. There is even research to suggest that playing the game has benefits to children.
#4 — Fortnite
Third person shooter game that gained popularity in 2019-2023, Fortnite is a 100-player face off with no real goal but to win. Ever since its release in 2017, Fortnite has gained many different game modes, like the chance to experience a platform for solely its building aspects, or team modes going up to four players. With a 9.6/10 review on IGN (unavailable on Steam) and its colorful maps, easy gameplay, simple goal, Fortnite is a perfect game for most ages. Most players range from 10-20, but there are more players above or below the medium. It has won 20 video game awards, and has been nominated for over 25 more.
#5 — Grand Theft Auto V
2013 action adventure game with a 9/10 Steam review and 95% liking rate, Grand Theft Auto V (also known as GTA V) gained heavy traction in 2015 and has been high ever since. With no true goal in its open-world gameplay, and the accessibility to missions to follow a story, GTA V opens a huge space to do most of what you want. It can serve as an open world RPG, story-based singleplayer, shooter game, or an open world multiplayer to have fun with friends. For its massive multipurpose, it can be enjoyed by all.
If you’ve never heard of any of these games before, I definitely recommend checking at least one of them out. All of these games have many aspects for a lot of people to enjoy, and even if all you do is watch people play it, you will be able to find some kind of fun.
