The “Lover” era stars Swift in a pastel bodysuit, in which she performs from her seventh studio album, “Lover,” released in 2019. Following the “Lover” era, Swift entertains the audience with three classics from “Fearless” and the bittersweet album, “Evermore.” Revealing that Swift’s music can appeal to numerous genres, she alternates through years of her life performing “Reputation,” “Speak Now,” “Red,” “Folklore”and “1989.”
Bringing the film to an end, Swift performs her most recent album, “Midnights” in a blue bodysuit. Each era relates to a different album, encompassing distinctive outfits, sets and dancers. Swift’s ability to showcase ten different albums, and 17 years of music into three hours makes her even more remarkable.
“I’d say if I had to choose like a single song that it would probably be ‘betty’ because…the whole like set up and everything, it was really pretty, and the design, it was perfect too,” said senior Varsha Patel. “It just like gave like character to the song.”
Swift’s film was quickly recognized as the highest grossing concert film in history. During its opening weekend the film “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour,” earned between “$95 million to $97 million for the film’s opening weekend on Sunday” according to CNBC. In its second week, CNBC reported that, “The pop star’s Eras Tour concert film snared $31 million,” as well as having made “the most of any concert film at the domestic box office,” which is a remarkable accomplishment.
To show appreciation towards her fans, Swift made a surprise appearance at the movie’s premiere in Los Angeles in a beautiful blue dress. A-list celebrities like Beyoncé even attended the premiere. Through the speech she gave on the day of her movie premiere in Los Angeles, Swift shows how much she cherishes the support her fans have given her throughout the years.
Long-time Swiftie and senior at RV, Alisa Fritter, was mesmerized by Swift’s stage presence.
“Personally, as someone in acting classes, I like, just the way she’s completely free of self-consciousness, she’s just there, and it’s amazing,” she said. “She does it for the fans”.
Patel appreciated the film as a cheaper and more accessible alternative to seeing Swift in concert.
“[I couldn’t get tickets to the tour], I sat there on Ticketmaster for like three days straight, did not get a single ticket so I went to the movie instead and I really liked it,” she said.
Those who attended the movie felt a welcoming community in the theater. In the days approaching the movie, Swifties on social media discussed the expectations in theaters. Fans decided to sing along with the lyrics, dance, do chants, dress up and trade friendship bracelets. While bringing their energy and comradery to theaters worldwide, Swifties exhibited an uplifting spirit.
Patel felt that the energy of the theater matched the energy of a typical Swift concert.
“The environment was like exactly like a concert. People in all of the rows just started standing up, dancing, singing, it was amazing, and people were…even trading friendship bracelets,” she said.
Fritter also felt a sense of community at the theater
“There was like this younger kid and he had stickers…to pass around, it was really like a community,” she said.
