The RV Athletics Department recently implemented a new online ticket system, Vanco Events, for certain sporting events like basketball games. Students are now required to purchase tickets online in order to attend sporting events.
The change was implemented after the RV vs. Burlington Twp. football game, according to Athletic Director Mr. Michael Lamb.
“There was a little bit of chaos. A lot of people showed up unexpectedly that night,’’ said Lamb. “We just had a rush of people that overloaded our stadium. Most of them not even from RV… and it created what we consider an unsafe environment for our students.”
This event then led to implementation of the new fully online ticketing system in order to protect the safety of students and fans at sporting events.
“ [Now] we know who’s coming into the games, we know when to cut it off for the number of sales. So once we hit a limit, the sales are cut off,” said Lamb.
Mr. Lamb also acknowledges the issues that some students may face when using the new online system.
“I do realize it’s a little bit of a headache for the students to have to hear [about] this and go on their phones and download their free ticket or purchase a ticket, I know their a little bit more extra work than just showing up and showing us your ID sticker or showing up and paying your $3 and coming in,” said Mr. Lamb. “ but the general purpose of what it is is to try and make the game safer and more importantly… a good atmosphere for the kids to enjoy.”
Although it may be a hassle to some people to work with this new system, there are yet to be many major issues with the Vanco Events system and people getting tickets to different events using the system.
“ There hasn’t been [ any issues], the major thing is just getting the word out… the more people know that it’s an online only situation… we’re gonna have less problems at the door, less people showing up without tickets, and having to stand there and buy them.”
Even with the smooth transition from buying physical tickets to buying them online, many students are not a fan of the online system.
“I am not a fan of the new ticketing system, it is just outrageous that’s what we have to do for a football game.” said senior Violet Bolyard.
