RV’s Dance Team has come back with a National Champion title after competing at Nationals in Orlando, Florida, winning the title in the Intermediate Hip Hop category.
For their Small Varsity Kick performance, they received Second and an Innovative Choreography award.
Additionally, for their Large Varsity Team Performance, they received Second place and the Unleashed Award.
RV participates in the National Dance Alliance, and participates in both State competition and the National competition (which is held in Orlando, Florida). The national competition takes place from March 8-10. This year they received recognition in their Small Varsity Kick, dancing to “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” by Lorde. Additionally, they received recognition for their Large Varsity Team Performance, the theme of which was “Storm.”
The Dance team has had an incredible history of excellence, having now won five national championships. The last time they had won a national championship was the Medium Varsity Kick Division in 2018.
Their first place title in the Intermediate Hip Hop category is not just a first place win, but means so much more since this is the first time this category has even been in the competition.
The theme for this year’s Hip Hop Performance was boxing, as throughout the performance, the dancers were dressed in outfits relating to boxing along with the music which also related to boxing as well.
Mrs.Wagner, the coach of the Dance Team since its inception, pointed to the Dance team’s mindset this year.
“The leadership from all of the seniors really helped push us through.” she said. “Our motto this year was ‘Hustle and Heart.’ So the whole team just bought into our motto.”
The choreography for the Intermediate Hip Hop Routine was done by the 11 senior members of the Dance Team, which adds another layer of meaning to the win.
