Red and White Night (RAWN) is a big event at RVRHS. It is full of games, competitions, and competitiveness, RAWN occurs every year in late March in the main gym. What is RAWN, people ask? Well, RAWN is a competition between two teams, the red team and the white team. They go head-to-head in all sorts of different activities and challenges. In the end, the team that gets the most points wins bragging rights.
RAWN is talked about pretty often at RVRHS. It is shown and encouraged on RVTV every morning, posted on social media, and talked about between the students. But, the big question is, considering the new freshman, the new captains and the new theme, which is DC vs Marvel, will RAWN be bigger and better than last year?
“I am going to come out with a strong attitude…It’s all about building a community” one of our red team captains, Avery Hennessey, said. RAWN is all about the students and showing RV pride, Hennessey’s goal is to make that the main priority this year. She is dedicated to helping out her team and getting them the win. Hennessey, although, mentions that a lot of games or participation activities from prior years have been removed this year. One of the things that she mentioned the most are the skits. Skits used to be a big part of RAWN but it is unfortunately not a part of RAWN this year. Even though it has been removed, Hennessey, along with the rest of her team, is trying their best to get more people involved.
RAWN may have lost some special events or games from the past, but that does not mean that it has to be any less entertaining than the previous years. The more people that participate in the games they offer now, the more other students will want to join too. RAWN is all about being involved and meeting new people at RV. Which is why being involved makes a huge change.
There has been a lot of talk about the team captains on each team. Each team has multiple captains who work to make RAWN well-known around the school. They run all the poster paintings, RAWN games on their team’s side, and more. They have to be dedicated and hard-working if they want to help their team. Students wonder how the captains were picked or what the job of a captain is.
“Students were invited to apply based upon recommendation from selected staff and the RAWN advisors. Interviews were conducted by the RAWN advisors” the advisor that helps pick the captains and runs RAWN, Mr. Maniglia, said. These captains are well fit for the job if teachers pick them out of anyone. They also had to go through interviews with the RAWN advisors.
These captains are who make this event fun and an event that students want to go to. They put in extra hours of work to find ways to make RAWN a better experience each year. Aside from the captains, the games and events themselves are the real center of attention. The school spirit and the RVRHS pride that RAWN has is what makes RV special.
“I’m really excited about the class of 2028” the principal of RVRHS, Mr. Martin, said. The class of 2028 is an outgoing and very competitive group of students and considering RAWN is all about competition, the class of 2028 would be a great part of these games. If many of the freshman go, the night of the event will be packed with excitement, humor, and good vibes all around. “It is a pretty incredible night… it is one of our most powerful extracurricular events” Mr. Martin also states. RAWN is something special at RVRHS that is definitely not something anyone would want to miss. It’s something that no other school has, that is what makes it so special, and that is why the students and staff must try their hardest every year to make it extraordinary.
On March 28th, 2025, RAWN will take place in the small gym at RV. All of these questions and thoughts will soon be answered. Buy the shirt, dress up, sign up for the games, and have a fun night with friends at this out-of-the-ordinary event and make this high school event a night to remember. Soon enough, the question “will RAWN live up to its expectations this year?” will be answered.
