The ultimate Valentine’s Day playlist

From R&B ballads to country tunes to soulful pop hits, we got you covered

Abigail Rodriguez, Arts & Culture Editor

Whether you will be spending Valentine’s Day with a significant other or at home with some snacks, I think many would agree that a good V-Day playlist is essential. I have compiled a list of love songs from multiple genres that are perfect for belting to a significant other, or for just belting to yourself in the mirror.

“Valentine” – 5 Seconds of Summer

This perfectly titled alternative/pop track is first up on the list. As the song suggests you can “throw balloons, teddy bears and the chocolate eclairs away” because this is not your typical love song.

“Always Be My Baby”- Mariah Carey

This mid-90s classic Carey tune is a perfect way to let your “baby” know “[you’re] a part of them indefinitely.” Don’t act like you haven’t shouted this one word-for-word in the car by youself.

“Best Part”- Daniel Ceasar and H.E.R

This R&B staple is perfect for an impromptu slow dance; bonus points if you sing along and serenade. The soothing tones of both Ceasar and H.E.R.’s voice will transport you to your own world.

“Forever After All”- Luke Combs

This highly anticipated country single is a perfect sing along if you want to profess your everlasting love for someone. Through the honeymoon phase and onto old age, you can let your person know you’ll be there forever.

“Stand by Me” – Prince Royce

This Spanglish (Spanish and English), version of the 1960s classic by Ben E. King will not only have you singing along but dancing as well. Royce’s version is a bachata, a primarily sensual and romantic music and dance genre originated in the Dominican Republic.

“If I Ain’t Got You”- Alicia Keys

You can never go wrong with a piano and the mellifluous voice of Alicia Keys. This sing is a confessional to all those who just can’t go on without their boo.

“Speechless”- Dan + Shay

As the title suggests sometimes one can be so overcome with emotion that they are left “speechless.” This country hit details the moments that made you fall in love as well as all the times you’re continuously blown away by that special someone in your life.

“Just The Way You Are” – Bruno Mars

One of the many hit songs by Mars, “Just The Way You Are” is a reminder to the one you love of all the little things about them that make you love them.

“Anyone” – Justin Bieber

Bieber’s newest single, an ode to his wife Hailey, is a perfect song to dedicate to “the only one [you’ll] ever love.”

“Thinking Outloud” – Ed Sheeran

This may just be THE wedding song of the past decade, and for good reason. This raw and soulful ballad is a detailed love letter in song form.

All songs can be found on streaming services like Spotify. Whether you love Valentine’s Day or loathe it, you can’t deny that any of these songs will get you in the mood for love.
