The movie Beetlejuice Beetlejuice came out on September 6th, 2024. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is the second movie in the Beetlejuice franchise which began in 1988. The Beetlejuice franchise consists of dark fantasy and comedy horror. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice has returning actors Michael Keaton as Beetlejuice, Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, and Catherine O’Hara as Delia Deetz. This movie also has new characters, such as Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz (Lydia’s daughter), Arthur Conti as Jeremy Frazier, and Santiago Cabrera as Richard (Astrid’s deceased father). Overall, this movie has a lot of good actors with some shocking twists and turns.
The movie was marketed by many brands such as Fanta, Secret, Progressive, CarMax, and many more. CarMax made a commercial where it’s Beetle-Max and a few characters were incorporated into the advertisement. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is Tim Burton’s biggest hit in the global box office for the first time in a decade. The movie’s global box office worth is now standing at around $373 million.
The way they titled the movie was clever because they named the first Beetlejuice, the second one Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, and now they have room for a third Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The title Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice would make sense because in the movies you have to say Beetlejuice’s name three times for him to appear, so it would only be right to make a third.
The movie started very interesting, giving us a little snippet of what Lydia does now that she is an adult and parent. Tim Burton also giving Lydia a daughter was awesome. Astrid, her daughter, acted a bit like how Lydia acted when she was young, which showed great attention to detail. Adding in the part of how Astrid’s dad died and she was left with her mom and her mom’s boyfriend was interesting, as it correlates to how Lydia’s mom wasn’t in the picture and it was just her dad and stepmother.
I feel like they should have brought back more of the old characters from the waiting room in the first movie because in this film they weren’t as cool as the people from the first movie. The first movie made me wonder how that happened and in the new one, it seemed obvious. In the first movie, there was a girl who was split in half, there were a million things that could’ve happened but it left us wondering. The new movie just makes everything obvious and doesn’t leave a lot to the imagination. One of my favorite things Tim Burton added was his wife as Delores, she played her part beautifully. Sophomore student Jada Joseph elaborates on this point when speaking about her thoughts on Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
“This movie had many amazing twists and turns that made my jaw drop,” Joseph says.“I especially liked how Tim Burton included his wife in the movie, it was an amazing feature in the movie.”
The movie also had a wonderful soundtrack, all of the music fit the scenes so beautifully.. There were a few occasional songs that were remade that don’t sound as good as the original, one song being “Day-O” by Alfie Davis and The Sylvia Young Theatre School Choir, that song didn’t sound that good to me. In my opinion, one of the best songs that was in the movie was “Tragedy” by Bee Gees. The song fits the scene of Delores putting herself together and truly captured the vibe of the production. There were also scenes where other languages were incorporated which I enjoyed, as I thought having foreign languages in a movie makes a movie incredibly inclusive.
Overall, this movie was jaw-dropping, comedic, and just amazing. I had an amazing time watching this movie and laughing uncontrollably. I recommend this movie to anyone looking for a good time and a good laugh. Original viewers and new viewers will have an excellent time watching this movie and will be very entertained.
