The Eagles have lost their third consecutive game to the Seahawks to make their record 10-4. The Eagles now are tied with the second best record in the NFC.
In the first quarter, Jalen Hurts successfully executed the quarterback draw play, sprinting for a three-yard touchdown on third-and-goal. After the first quarter, the score was 7-0 Eagles.
In the second quarter, Jake Elliott made a 27-yard field goal to extend the lead to 10-0 after a false start on Jason Kelce on third-and-1 from the Seattle three-yard line. A big stop on third-and-6 by safety Reed Blankenship forced the Seahawks to kick a 26-yard field goal by Jason Myers to make the score 10-3.
In the third quarter, The Seahawks stormed down the field for a touchdown on the first drive, running all over the Eagles’ defense. The drive was concluded by a 23-yard rushing touchdown by Kenneth Walker. Walker helped the Seahawks tie the game with 54 rushing yards. With 14 touchdowns on the ground as a quarterback in a season, Hurts set a franchise record. Hurts broke through the goal line on the Brotherly Shove following a strong rush by Swift on first and goal to make the score 17-10.
In the fourth quarter, the Seahawks settled for another field goal after a Jalen Carter sack. Myers made a 43-yard field goal to make the score 17-13. With 28 seconds left in the game, Drew Lock connected with Jaxon Smith-Njigba for a 29-yard touchdown. The Seahawks drove 92 yards down the field in 1:24 to take the lead. Jalen with under a minute left threw an interception to end the game 17-20.
“It’s pretty terrible when you lose to a team that has a losing record,” freshman Joseph Sprague said.
The Eagles in the past three games have not been living up to the standards they set earlier in the year. The 17-20 loss to the Seahawks has caused controversy over if the Eagles will go far in the playoffs this season.
In the loss against the Seahawks, Hurts threw for only 143 yards with two interceptions with a 58.4 completion percentage.
“Absolutely horrendous and embarrassing,” sophomore Michael Connell said.
Honestly, there isn’t really much to say other than the fact that they didn’t play well. The Eagles defense played mediocre and the offense couldn’t keep up with the Seahawks. Next week the Eagles play the Giants on Christmas day.
Let’s hope for a Christmas Miracle.
