Bright lights, sparkling costumes, and lively performances characterized Dancing with the Teachers (DWTT) 2024, an event that showcased the talents and dedication of staff, students, and volunteers. Months of preparation from the staff, dance team, and coach April Wagner were evident, creating a well-organized and engaging evening.
The event opened with a performance by the chamber choir, setting the stage for the evening. Hosting duties were carried out by Mr. Rossi and past DWTT champion Miss Vizzacco, who kept the audience informed and entertained. Thirteen teacher teams performed on stage, drawing cheers and laughter from the packed theater. Judges, Mrs. Sherman, Mr. Freitag, and Mr. Haussman, added commentary and conducted lighthearted interviews with each couple after their performances.
Intermission allowed the audience to vote for their favorite couple, adding an interactive component to the show. After the break, the dance and step teams performed dynamic routines while votes were tallied. The event concluded with the announcement of the 2024 winning couple, Mr. Xavier Foushee and Mrs. Mary Bowlby, capping off an evening of celebration and entertainment.
After the announcement, Mr. Foushee explains, “I am excited, I am tired, and I am grateful.”
Mrs. Bowlby continues, “It was a great night, and it was fun to be here with everybody.”
Special recognition goes to dancers Sydney Schiliro, Kendall Merhar, Alejandro King, and Makayla Luisi, who served as event coordinators, and standout couples 4, 5, 7, and 10. Proceeds from DWTT support the RVDT on their road to nationals.
Alejandro King says, “The most exciting part about being an event coordinator and coach is watching my couple grow and flourish as dancers and see the whole show come together because it brings me so much happiness.”
Since its introduction in 2009, Dancing with the Teachers has become a valued part of RV’s community events. Reflecting on the evening, Mrs. Wagner said, “I want to thank the teachers who performed and contributed to the family and culture RV is all about.” Held every three years, the event offers a unique opportunity for community members to come together and celebrate.
